Wednesday's Wonderful Collection - Green B. Holifield Papers, MS.000082

Green B. Holifield, a native of Graves, Kentucky, moved to Clay County, Arkansas, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Holifield, in 1855 and settled in Boydsville, Arkansas. After graduating from high school in Gainesville, Arkansas, Green Holifield studied law privately and was admitted to the Bar Association in 1881. In addition, he held local and state offices as justice of the peace and state representative.

G.B. Holifield was married twice. His first wife was Mary Cummings, and their children were William Stanford and Martha J. Holifield. After Mary's death in 1878, he married Verdilla P. Perrian, and they had three children: Etta Lee, Mary Susan, and Otis Oscar Holifield.

This collection contains deeds, correspondence, land grants, tax receipts, bank statements, mortgages, promissory notes, and title abstracts for the Holifield family of Rector, Clay County, Arkansas.
