Wednesday's Wonderful Collection - Oscar B. Robbins Collection, MS.000174

Oscar B. Robbins was born in Rose Bud (White County), Arkansas, on December 26, 1885.  Robbins graduated from Ouachita College in Arkadelphia, where he had participated in football and track. He was principal at schools in Rose Bud and Floyd, and helped organize Woodmen of the World insurance benefits for Arkansas. He was also a representative in the Arkansas legislature prior to his service in World War I. Robbins began a successful business career by purchasing a Ford dealership in Heber Springs in 1919 and was later president of Cleburne County Bank.

This collection focuses on the World War I era, describing some aspects of Oscar Robbins' life as a college student, educator, representative, and soldier.

Wednesday's Wonderful Collection - William Graham Harrison Papers, MS.000068

William Graham Harrison came to Conway County, Arkansas, with his father, Daniel, in 1832, settling near Lewisburg. William Harrison served as a minister of the Southern Methodist Church, ferryman on Cadron Creek and the Arkansas River, and as Conway County Sheriff from 1852 until his death in 1853. He was married to Narcissa Wilbanks. 

This collection consists of correspondence, deeds, indentures, land patents, legal records, tax receipts, photographs, publications, genealogical data, clippings, memorandum books, hymnal, and other material.

Wednesday's Wonderful Collection - J.H. and Garner Fraser Papers, MS.000027

James Hubbard Fraser was born 1841 in Alabama and was the editor of the Clinton Banner newspaper in Clinton, Van Buren County, Arkansas, 1881-1882. He was also a lawyer and a judge.

John Garner Fraser was born in 1875 in Clinton, son of James Hubbard Fraser. Garner Fraser was a lawyer, judge, and civic leader in Clinton. He served on the 14th Judicial Circuit Court for thirteen years. Fraser died December 16, 1952.

This collection contains manuscripts written by John Garner Fraser, along with fragments of legal documents, typescripts, newsclippings, and articles.

Wednesday's Wonderful Collection - Leslie Family Papers, MS.00115

Samuel Leslie was born in Barren County, Kentucky on October 25, 1809. He moved to Searcy County, Arkansas, in 1838 from Tennessee and homesteaded 160 acres of land near Cove Creek. In Arkansas, he served five terms in the Arkansas Legislature. During the Civil War, he served as a colonel in the Arkansas militia and a captain in the Confederate army.

A.J. Leslie, Sr., Samuel's son, was born in July of 1834 in Tennessee. He married Sarah Parks. After Sarah's death, he married her sister, Melinda Parks. A.J. and Melinda Leslie moved to Wiley's Cove in 1886, where he became the postmaster. Wiley's Cove was later renamed Leslie Post Office. The town of Leslie, Arkansas, was incorporated on February 9, 1903.

This collection contains deeds, tax receipts, family correspondence, land grants, and legal contracts concerning the Leslie family and their property in Searcy County, Arkansas, near the town of Leslie.
